How to Display Variations Using the WooCommerce Product Filter

Allowing customers to filter products in your WooCommerce store is one of the simplest ways to increase product visibility and improve user experience. WooCommerce product filter options make it easier for customers to quickly find products and add them to the shopping cart.

You can add price filters, product filters, or price range filters. This way, customers can filter by rating, price, discounts, brands, or color.

With this in mind, you’ll need a WooCommerce product filter plugin that:

  • Offers accurately filtered search results with relevant product variations and imagery.

Benefits of using Show Single Variations to filter products in WooCommerce

Before we jump into the tutorial, let’s quickly take a look at the different benefits of using Show Single Variations to filter products in WooCommerce.

Mark products as featured

WooCommerce gives you the option to mark products as ‘featured’ directly from the All Products screen. But what it doesn’t do is let you mark product variations as ‘featured’.

Show Single Variations, on the other hand, lets you mark individual WooCommerce product variations as ‘featured’ products from the Product data section. This is useful for online store owners that sell variable products and need a way to highlight a specific variation.

Marking WooCommerce products and product variations as ‘featured’ helps you draw more attention to them on the front-end. As a result, it vastly improves product visibility.

Featured product variation

Once you have Show Single Variations installed on your site:

  • Go to the Product data section.
  • Then click on the Variations tab to mark individual product variations as ‘featured’.

This way, if you choose to add featured products to your store’s homepage slider or on a landing page using a shortcode, the WooCommerce products and WooCommerce product variations marked as ‘featured’ will appear on the front-end.

Filtered products show relevant variations and imagery

A good WooCommerce product filter plugin should let you display relevant product variations along with the correct variation image in filter results.

For example, when a customer uses your filter widget to find Blue products, all variations in blue should appear in the filter results.

Show Single Variations lets you display product variations on the WooCommerce shop page and in the filtered and search results. In this way, filtering products will show relevant variations and imagery on the front-end rather than a generic parent product. Customers won’t have to go to the single product page to select the correct variation using dropdowns.

The more accurate you make your filter and search results, the higher the chance for a sale!

All you have to do is make sure that the Show in Filtered Results? option and the Show in Catalog? options are ticked for product variations. Here’s what the filter results will show on the front-end:
