We have far too many products to be adding cross-sell/upsells at the product level. Therefore, it would make sense to have a feature where you can set upsell/cross-sell based on taxonomies like "category".
For example, you could have a rule that would say if the product is in category "shoes" then set the cross-sell product to "Adidas White Sock".
